Understand how OrderRoutes handles destinations
OrderRoutes lets a buyer connect cart items with merchant-configured delivery destinations while the merchant keeps one Shopify order. OrderRoutes preserves item-level delivery context for the merchant to review.
Shopify still owns one native checkout address. The OrderRoutes destination attached to an item is that item's delivery instruction; it does not create multiple native Shopify checkout addresses.
Merchant steps
- Configure the two destination presets shown in the storefront flow.
- Make both preset labels clear enough for a buyer to choose correctly.
- Review destination context in OrderRoutes after an existing order is available.
The documented storefront flow has exactly two merchant-configured presets. It does not let a buyer type a free-form address or add a destination.
Buyer steps
- Choose one of the two merchant-configured presets for each cart item.
- Add an optional gift message or requested delivery date when shown.
- Save every assignment before continuing.
- Review the OrderRoutes destination context and one combined shipping option in Shopify Checkout.
