Count inventory with SKU or barcode entry

Use quick entry when staff are scanning shelves or typing SKUs and barcodes instead of editing each count line manually.

Plan Requirement

Ops plan or higher.

Role Or Permission Requirement

manage_counts is required when BackstockOps workflow roles are enforced.

App Path

Shopify Admin > Apps > BackstockOps > Stock counts > open a count.

Direct app path: /app/stock-counts/{stockCountId}.

UI Labels

The quick entry area uses these visible labels:

SKU, barcode, or name
Counted quantity
Set count
Search count lines
Line status

Steps

Open the stock count.
Put the cursor in SKU, barcode, or name.
Scan a barcode or type a SKU, barcode, product name, or variant name.
Enter the physical quantity in Counted quantity.
Select Set count.
Review the row that changed.
Continue scanning or typing the next item.
Use Line status to switch between all lines, counted lines, missed lines, and discrepancies.

Shopify Read And Write Behavior

Quick entry reads from the count lines created from synced Shopify data. It does not immediately write to Shopify. Shopify inventory changes only after discrepancies are approved and applied.

Expected Success State

The matched line shows the counted quantity, the status changes to counted, and any difference from expected quantity appears as a discrepancy.

Common Troubleshooting

No stock count line matched that SKU, barcode, or name: check the SKU or barcode in Shopify and confirm the item is in the count scope.
Multiple similar products appear in search: use the exact SKU or barcode when possible.
The scanner submits too quickly: click into SKU, barcode, or name again and confirm the scanned text before selecting Set count.
Counted quantity is wrong: edit the row quantity or use quick entry again with the correct quantity.
