Transfer Planning

Use Transfer planning to create warehouse transfer worksheets from current inventory, replenishment need, source protection rules, and planning windows.

Plan Requirement

Transfer planning requires the Ops plan or higher.

Role Or Permission Requirement

When workflow roles are enforced, viewing transfer planning requires report access and creating or exporting transfer plans requires export-oriented workflow access. Owner/Admin and Analyst roles can normally work with transfer planning; exact access depends on the configured BackstockOps role.

App Path

Shopify Admin > Apps > BackstockOps > Transfer planning.

Direct app path: /app/transfers.

Important Shopify Behavior

BackstockOps transfer plans are operational worksheets. Shopify native transfers remain the source of truth for shipment and receipt. BackstockOps can store a native transfer ID or URL for reference, but it does not replace Shopify's transfer workflow.

What BackstockOps Reads From Shopify

BackstockOps reads Shopify products, variants, inventory quantities, and locations. It also uses BackstockOps replenishment recommendations and transfer plan templates.

What BackstockOps Writes To Shopify

BackstockOps transfer planning does not move Shopify inventory by itself. Exports, printouts, picked quantities, received quantities, exception notes, and native transfer links are BackstockOps records unless you separately complete a native Shopify transfer.

Transfer Planning Page

The page shows these metrics:

  • Active locations
  • Draft plans
  • Exported
  • Linked
  • Suggested units

The Generate transfer plan form uses:

  • Name
  • Source
  • Destination
  • Forecast window
  • Source protection
  • Minimum transfer
  • Notes
  • Generate recommendations

Templates can be saved with Save template and removed with Delete.

The plan list can be filtered by:

  • Source
  • Destination
  • Status
  • Apply

Statuses include Draft, Exported, Linked to Shopify transfer, Completed, Cancelled, and Ignored.

Expected Success State

A successful plan has transfer lines with suggested quantities, source and destination locations, exception status where applicable, and either a printable worksheet or CSV export that staff can use for picking and receiving.

Common Troubleshooting

  • No recommendations: run replenishment first and confirm the destination has understocked products.
  • Source and destination are the same: choose different locations.
  • Suggested units are lower than expected: check Source protection, Forecast window, and Minimum transfer.
  • Shopify inventory did not move: create or update the native Shopify transfer separately.
  • A linked Shopify transfer opens the wrong place: check the saved native transfer ID or URL.
