Create a transfer plan

Create a transfer plan when one location needs inventory and another location can spare stock without dropping below the protection level you choose.

Plan Requirement

Ops plan or higher.

Role Or Permission Requirement

Use a role that can view reports and export operational data when BackstockOps workflow roles are enforced.

App Path

Shopify Admin > Apps > BackstockOps > Transfer planning.

Direct app path: /app/transfers.

Steps

Open Transfer planning.
In Generate transfer plan, enter a Name.
Choose a Source location.
Choose a different Destination location.
Set Forecast window in days.
Set Source protection in days.
Set Minimum transfer.
Add Notes if staff need picking or receiving context.
Select Generate recommendations.
Open the generated plan from the plan list.
Review suggested quantities, exceptions, and line notes.
Use the print worksheet or CSV export for warehouse work.
If you create a native Shopify transfer, save the native transfer ID or URL in the plan detail page.

Shopify Read And Write Behavior

BackstockOps reads current synced inventory, locations, and replenishment signals. It writes the transfer plan to BackstockOps only. It does not create, ship, receive, or close a Shopify transfer.

Expected Success State

The plan appears in the transfer list with a status such as Draft, Exported, or Linked to Shopify transfer. The plan detail page contains suggested units and can be printed or exported.

Common Troubleshooting

Generate recommendations produces no lines: confirm replenishment recommendations exist for the destination.
A source location has stock but is not suggested: source protection may reserve that quantity.
A line has an exception: review the plan detail and decide whether to pick less, ignore, or handle the item manually.
Receiving in Shopify is still needed: use Shopify's native transfer flow for shipment and receipt.
